通知，是運用廣泛的知照性公文。用來發布法規、規章，轉發上級機關、同級機關和不相隸屬機關的公文，批轉下級機關的公文，要求下級機關辦理某項事務等。

通知一般用于上級對下級\組織對成員布置工作\傳達事情及召集會議等。通知就其形式而言，可分為書面通知和口頭通知兩種形式.對通知的考查側重于對通知格式及通知正文時態的應用等方面。寫好一份通知，需要掌握下面三點：
一、通知的形式
通知有多種分類。從形式上可分為書面通知(written notice)和口頭通知(an nouncement)。書面通知強調語句簡練，用詞貼切，用語書面化;而口頭通知比較靈活簡練，用詞表達可隨便些，較為口語化。
二、通知的結構
通知一般由標題、正文和結尾三部分組成。標題部分包括常用標題語和發出通知的單位名稱;正文包括事情、通知對象、要求、時間(有時還包括地點)等;結尾部分主要包括發通知的具體日期。英文通知的格式一般是將notice(每個字母都大寫)寫在通知正文上面一行的正中間。發出通知的單位名稱可以寫在notice上面，也可以寫在通知正文的右下角;發通知的日期一般寫在通知正文的左下角。書面通知的格式如圖所示：
三、通知的書寫
1.發出通知的單位和對象在一般情況下用第三人稱，如要求同學們按時到會，不說“we must to…”或“you should…”，而應寫成：all the students are requested to be there on time.
2.在語言上，口頭通知的句型應該做到口語化，多用簡單句和祈使句，語言上盡可能用精煉的文字表達明確的信息。通知中提及的事情都是計劃要做的，時態多用將來時，語態多用被動式。
在句式上，常以“boys and girls/ladies and gentlemen”等作為稱呼語。開頭常用句式是“may i have your attention，please?/attention，please./i've got some- thing important to say./i'm very glad to tell you that.../please be quiet,everyone! i have something to say./i have some good news for you!/there will be a talk tomor row./the sports meeting will be held.../it has been decided that we'll pay a visit to…”，在通知結尾處常用句式“please be there on time”并以“that's all. thank you”作為客套結束語。
3.書面通知常以布告形式張貼或寫在布告牌、黑板上，把事情通知到有關人員等。為醒目起見，標題的每個字母可以用大寫(如notice)。一開頭需要交代說明何事(what)、何地(where)、何時(when)、何人(who)。
4.在句式寫法上必須注意以下幾點：①盡可能用精煉的`文字表達明確的信息，多用簡單句或短句、單句，以避免繁雜;②通知往往著重對活動內容、對象進行說明，多用被動語態，如“the class meeting will be held…”(班會將舉行……)等等;③通知是要求下級成員該做什么或注意什么，多用祈使句;④通知中所告的事情大部分是未進行的，故多用將來時態。
簡而言之，一份好的書面通知應具備以下三點：
1.四多一少。四多：被動語態多，將來時態多，簡單句多，祈使句多。一少：修飾性詞語少。
2.通知的開頭要交代清楚活動的內容、對象、時間和地點。我們稱之為四
“w”。即：what，who，when，where.
3.層次清晰。一個層次表達一件事，切忌在一個句子中表達多件事情。
