　　Chinese Lunar New Year，or Spring Festival falls on January 1st according to the lunar calendar，usually around the late January or early February。As the start of spring as well as a new year，it is the most important celebration of the year。

　　Each family get reunited during the New Year。On the Eve，there is a big dinner for the family when each member return to get together。

　　The biggest New Years party is held on CCTV。Hundreds of people gather there，meanwhile millions of others all over the country were sitting in front of the screen to watch excellent performances for more than four hours continuously。

　　The bell strike twelve at midnight to welcome the coming of the New Year or Spring。People start to set off firecraks and say Happy New Year to each other。

　　The SpringFestival is my most favorite festival, because it’s time for family gathering.And the Spring Festival is a new start of a year. It brings me hope andcourage. On Spring Festival, my parents usually take me back to my hometown. Myhometown is a small town. Many of my relatives move to the larger cities, butwe usually go home when the Spring Festival comes. During the gathering, weshare our lives with others and care about each other. Of course, big meals arenecessary. Families prepare for the big meals together. They all cook theirspecialty dishes. Therefore, our meals are always delicious.

　　We often stay athome for three days and then we leave with others’ wishes. I like the SpringFestival, because I like family gathering.

　　Today is a fine day. When I was going down the stairs and going to have breakfast. In the past years, we never decorated our house during the Spring Festival.” I said to myself. “but this year….” At the moment, the telephone rang.

　　I quickly picked up the phone. That’s mum. She said that they decorated the house this morning before they went to work. And she told me that almost everyone in her company decorated their houses, even her company was decorated as well. How interesting that is! After breakfast, I went to the balcony, breeze blew to my face. It was gentle and warm. The four small lanterns swang, too, like smiling to the wind. How lovely! With these nice decorations， I think the Spring Festival will be more interesting and colourful!

To the Chinese people it is as important as Christmas to people in the West. the dates for this annual celebration are determined by the lunar calendar rather than the GREgorian calendar, so the timing of the holiday varies from late January to early February.

　　To the ordinary Chinese, the festival actually begins on the eve of the lunar New Year’s Day and ends on the fifth day of the first month of the lunar calendar. But the 15th of the first month, which normally is called the Lantern Festival, means the official end of the Spring Festival in many parts of the country.

　　在中國最重要的節日是春節,也被稱為中國的新年。中國人民是西方人的圣誕節一樣重要。這個一年一度的慶典的日期是由農歷而不是公歷,所以假期的時間從一月底到二月初而異。
