　　if you are good at observation， you may find that fewer people today prefer to going to the cinema to watching tv at home. and this phenomenon is proved by the above graph. lets look at the graph. it shows that from 1975 to 1985，the number of tv watchers increased steadily, while the number of film-goers drastically decreased.

　　there aret i think, at least two reasons for this trend. fist of all, one, sitting in front of the tv, can always find his/her favorite program, for there is always a great variety of programs which can satisfy different tastes. but in this respect, the cinema can never be compared with tv. secondly, it is simply easy and comfortable for people to watch tv indoors. watching tv saves people the trouble of going out and lining up for tickets and so on. they just sit somewhere, and, with the remote controller in hand, enjoy themselves.nevertheless few as they are, some people always enjoy going to the cinema. tv can never take the place of the film for these people. for them, the film always has its unique charm. they go to the cinema for the particular atmosphere and the feeling of getting involved in the action.

　　Pollution is harmful to human beings. Polluted water causes many kinds of diseases such as diarrhea,enteritis,etc. And sometimes these diseases even take man’s life. Dirty air or air-borne garbage causes stinging eyes and running nose. Pollutants are destructive. They cause runs in nylon stockings and crack rubber tires and they eat away at stone and rust iron.

　　Measures have been taken to control pollution. In recent years,legislative steps have been introduced to control pollution. Rivers are being cleaned. Air is purified,and pollutants are being trapped before they are poured out of chimneys.

　　However,pollution problems have not been completely solved. Pesticides are widely used almost everywhere. They pollute soil,water and food. They have the power to make our streams fishless and our gardens and woodlands silent and birdless. Some factories are still using air as a dumping place for wastes. Some lakes are still dirty. Quite a few chimneys are still pouring smoke into air and noise pollution remains serious.

　　污染對人類有害。污染的水引起多種疾病，諸如腹瀉，腸炎等。有時這些疾病甚至會奪去人的生命。污染的'空氣或空氣中含有的廢物引起眼睛刺痛，流鼻涕。污染物是有害的，它們使尼龍長襪脫絲，使車胎爆裂，侵蝕石頭，使鐵生銹。

　　為了防止污染，采取了一些措施。近年來，采取一些立法措施來控制污染。河水正在變清，空氣正被凈化，污染物從煙囪中排放出來以前，就得到了控制。

　　然而，污染問題并未完全解決。殺蟲劑在廣泛使用著，些殺蟲劑污染著土壤、水和食品，使河流的魚類無法生存，使我們的花園飛鳥絕跡，毫無聲息。一些工廠仍然把大氣作為垃圾傾倒場。一些湖泊依然很臟。還有不少的煙囪把煙塵排放到大氣中，另外，噪音污染依然嚴重。
