　　Once upon a time there was a dark cave in a valley where there lived a monster called nian. There was a small village below the valley, and when the last day of the New Year came, the people in the village would shut the door tightly. One year, as the villagers were on their way to the city, a fairy said to the villagers, "the monster is most afraid of red things and noise."
