　　Visitors to the United States are often surprised to learn the great distance from the east coast to the west coast. The continental United States stretches 4,500 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean on the east to the Pacific Ocean on the west. It borders Canada on the North,and reaches south to Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico. A fast train,travelling 96 kilometers an hour, takes more than 48 hours to cross the country. A jet plane crosses the continental United States from east to west in about five hours.

　　Including the states of Alaska and Hawaii,which are not seen in this map of the continental United States, the country covers an area of 9,363,123 square kilometers. Of the fifty states of the country Alaska is the largest in area,and Hawaii is the newest. The former borders on northwestern Canada: the latter lies in the Pacific.

　　The main content of American culture is the emphasize on individuals' value,the pursue of democracy and freedom,the promotion of deploitation(開拓,經(jīng)營) and competition and the need of realistic and practicality.Its core is individualism:self first,personal need first,pursue of individual benefit and enjoyment,emphasize on achieving individual value by self-strive and self-design.This type of intentionally build up of personality and pursue customized individualism has its pros and cons,it gives incentives to people and make them exert on their potential and wisdom and as a result accelerate the development of the entire race and nation; on the other hand it is difficult to keep good relationship among people if everyone is egocentric thus make the entire society lack of unity.

　　我從小就喜歡旅游，上幼兒園起，我就夢想著出國去旅游。

　　四年級時，我本想和同學(xué)一起去新加坡，卻因為年齡太小，被爸爸媽媽拒絕。一轉(zhuǎn)眼，到了五年級的暑假，本打算去日本的我又對日本嚴(yán)重的甲型H1N1流感望而卻步。唉，我的夢想再一次破滅了。

　　現(xiàn)在，我已是七年級的學(xué)生了。一天，馮老對我們說：“今年暑假，我們又有出國去參加夏令營的活動。”我聽后高興極了：“嘿嘿，我又有機會圓夢了！”

　　中午，我飛快地吃完飯，然后飛奔到電話亭。

　　“滴滴，滴……”我撥通了媽媽的電話。“喂，媽媽，我們學(xué)校又組織去國外夏令營了，我想去美國。第一，我現(xiàn)在上初一，是個很關(guān)鍵的階段，美國是現(xiàn)在最發(fā)達的國家，我去那里增長了見識一定會有利于我的學(xué)習(xí)的。第二，此去美國有足足三十天時間，能夠給我一個充分的純英語環(huán)境，對我的.英語學(xué)習(xí)會大有幫助。第三，美國的東西賣得便宜……”我把我所有的理由都一一搬了出來。終于，功夫不負(fù)有心人，在我的軟磨硬泡后，媽媽總算說：“那好吧，反正你都這么大了，也該見見世面了。不過你一定要珍惜這次機會，出去多學(xué)點東西吧。”

　　我高興得跳了起來！我念叨了好幾年的夢想終于可以實現(xiàn)了！在回寢室的路上，我看見天出奇地藍，白云也仿佛變成了笑臉的形狀，以往搗蛋的同學(xué)，也都比平常順眼多了！

　　對了，去美國要住在居民家里，多學(xué)會一些英語的日常用語也是必不可少的。于是，我開始苦練英語，上課時，我比以前專心了許多。在上補習(xí)班的時候，我也讓老師給我強化了一下口語，漸漸的，我的英語會話能力提高了。

　　這次去美國，一定會讓我增長許許多多的見識，提高我的英語成績，也會讓我快樂。所以，我要好好珍惜這次機會，多學(xué)些知識，豐富我的人生。
