　　why do students learn english?

　　english has been getting more and more popular in the last decade. many countries have made english taught as the second language in schools. but why do students need english? if they do need, what do they need it for?

　　different students learn english for different purposes. most of the students learn english because they need to read english textbooks or journals and attend english lectures, while a few students use it to talk to english-speaking visitors, attend seminars, or write letters and reports.

　　whatever the purposes are, one thing is certain: students need english, and english teaching should be strengthened in universities. however, the current teaching methods should be improved and the teaching materials should be updated to satisfy their needs.

　　提起我的老媽，那話題如同天上的繁星，說上三天三夜也說不完。

　　老媽很喜歡追潮流，服裝、頭發、手機……全部都跟著潮流走。認識她的人還親切地給她取了一個綽號：潮流前線。

　　前幾個星期，老媽不知哪根筋搭錯了，突然對英語產生了濃厚的興趣，就拉著我和表姐說：“英語這東西夠潮，你倆要輪流教我，每次半小時，一天兩小時。”我和表姐的嘴巴變成了“O”形，半天也閉不攏。老媽也學英語？還一天兩個小時的超長“運動量”。

　　第一天放學回到家，老媽不等我坐下來，就讓我傳授“英語秘籍”。無可奈何的我只好乖乖服從了，教老媽讀“A、B、C、D、E、F、G”這七個英語字母。本以為老媽有一顆聰明的腦瓜，能夠很快地學會，可此時她的大腦就像一個超大級的木瓜，平時的機靈都不知跑到哪里去了。我怎么指點也不開竅，“A、B、C、D”還好說，可到了“F”這個字母，她的腦袋就像被卡在門里面了。

　　我的手一邊比劃著，一邊大聲告訴她：“是F！”

　　老媽倒是態度端正，一本正經地讀道：“啊付！”

　　“是F”

　　“哦！啊付！”

　　……

　　幸好半小時的教學時間很快就到了，我終于可以不再面對這個“意志堅定”的后進生了，否則我寧可上天遁地，獨自漂泊去了。

　　下一節是老姐的課，“啊付”與“F”的聲音不斷在屋內響起。三十分鐘過后，固執的老媽終于松口了，總算能讀準“F”的音了，真是進步明顯啊！

　　十分鐘的休息時間過后，又輪到我當老師了！我指著“G”說：“這個字叫G，你來讀一遍！”老媽笑著說：“這個簡單！雞！”“噗！”坐在我旁邊喝水的.表姐把水直接噴灑在我的身子上，“哇哈哈……”“你給我擦干凈！”我憤怒地指著表姐說，“對，對不起，太搞笑了！”老媽卻不以為然地看著我們兩個，愣愣地坐在那里。我只好宣布：“由于出現了不可抗拒的原因，今天的英語課提前下課。”

　　經過一個多月的努力，老媽終于能把全部的英文字母勉強讀下來啦。我本以為自己的老師生涯也就此劃上圓滿的句號了。誰知，老媽又提出了一項新要求——學英語單詞！表姐一臉壞笑地對我說：“保重身體……節哀順便啊！”

　　Then,there are worker ants. These ants build and repair the nest. They also collect food and look after the larvae.
